Matthew Gaetano
Associate Professor of History
Hillsdale College
Matthew Gaetano is an associate professor of history at Hillsdale College. A 2005 Hillsdale alumnus, he returned to his alma mater to join the History Department faculty in 2011 after receiving his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in European history from the University of Pennsylvania. At Hillsdale, he teaches the Western and American Heritage core classes as well as courses on the Renaissance, the Reformation, early modern European and global Christianity, and modern European intellectual history. His publications have generally focused on the reception of Plato, the Church Fathers, and medieval scholastic theology in Renaissance and Reformation philosophy and theology. [I'm not sure about the following - I'm not sure about the proper tone for the event - feel entirely free to cut: Gaetano is married to Amy Gaetano, ’06, and they have six children. Though he loves living in a small town in Michigan, he finds the cold weather quite unpleasant and is grateful for this opportunity to be with all of you in sunny California!
