“A Reflection on Human Nature”:
Madison, the Science of Man, and Our Constitutional Order
Aaron Alexander Zubia Assistant Professor of Humanities
Hamilton Center, University of Florida
April 21st, 2026
Event Description
Join us for a lecture with Dr. Aaron Alexander Zubia, Assistant Professor of Humanities at the University of Florida's Hamilton Center, that will examine the understanding of human nature that Madison learned from John Witherspoon at Princeton. This understanding—based on the Scottish "science of man"—privileges conscience and common sense and, Dr. Zubia contends, rests at the heart of our constitutional order, helping to set limits on our shared pursuit of the common good.
This event is part of the Hillsdale College, Washington, DC Campus America 250 celebration.
